Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern era, abundant amount of research projects are being funded by the private company. To ensure a better and transparent health for all people, only the government fund isn't enough and so involvement of other parties are necessary in my opinion.

For continuous improvement medical research projects are mandatory. But due to limited human resource, only government cannot implement theses at all. Not only it lacks enhanced supervision but also proper monitoring is not ensured in developing countries. Additionally, the bureaucracy in the governmental system made the process much slower and projects are delayed creating more uncertainty to implementation.

Combined approach can make a sustainable solution in overcoming these problems. The other parties involvement can incorporate feasible alternative to the issue. Private companies, individuals should research to enhance the innovation and so on. For example, recently the innovation of cheap oxygen supplying device to critically ill patients was done department of Biomedical Engineering, BUET. In this projects, the main innovation was done by a group of experts, but the financial support was ensured by a famous private company and the final policy were developed by the government. This reflects how a proper fund by a private company can ensure the successful implementation of research done by the individuals. So, a proper co-ordination is necessary.

From the above discussion and given example it is clear that, the medical research project should be carried by individual, private companies and government in a proper coordination to implement the positive outcomes for the benefit of mankind.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by arguing for a collaborative approach between government, private companies, and individuals. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the example of the oxygen device is relevant and well-integrated, the explanation of why government systems are slow or why private involvement is beneficial is a bit generic. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' of these collaborations, perhaps discussing the ethical implications of private funding in medical research, which would add depth to your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'For example', and 'From the above discussion'. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'implement theses', where the antecedent is not immediately obvious. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated to improve the natural flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'bureaucracy', 'sustainable solution', and 'critically ill'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'abundant amount of research projects' (should be 'a large number of') and 'transparent health' (which is vague). You also have some minor errors in article usage and pluralization, such as 'the private company' (should be 'private companies') and 'the other parties involvement' (should be 'the involvement of other parties'). Expanding your range of academic collocations would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'only government fund isn't enough' (missing article), 'the final policy were developed' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'the innovation of cheap oxygen supplying device' (missing article). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these are the most frequent issues in your writing.
