Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses the prompt by expressing a clear preference for government-funded research. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a relevant example regarding the COVID-19 pandemic to contrast private and public funding, the argument could be strengthened by discussing why private companies might be less suitable for certain types of research (e.g., long-term public health goals vs. profit-driven motives). The conclusion is brief and lacks a summary of the main points. To improve, ensure each body paragraph fully explores the 'why' behind your opinion rather than just stating the difference between the two sectors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'For example', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the connection between ideas is weak, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences are fragmented, which disrupts the overall progression of your argument. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between paragraphs would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your main points. You use some topic-specific terms like 'R&D', 'allopathic medicines', 'epidemic', and 'pandemic'. However, there are several spelling errors ('compnies', 'governement', 'rupess') and some awkward phrasing ('make human life more better', 'alter medicines'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and you rely on basic structures to express your ideas. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure you proofread for basic spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally distract the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('government have to do it', 'government should more focus'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence fragments ('Which wasn't affordable...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization after periods. While you attempt to use complex sentences, the control over these structures is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
