Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by suggesting a collaborative approach between government, private companies, and individuals. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding why wealthy individuals should contribute are vague, and the example regarding Delhi is incomplete, ending abruptly. Furthermore, the response is under the 250-word minimum, which significantly impacts the depth of the argument. To improve, you must ensure each point is fully explained with concrete reasoning and complete examples, and you must meet the minimum word count requirement to allow for sufficient task development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'Furthermore' are used, they are sometimes applied mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'see after them' or 'big heads'. The abrupt ending of the final paragraph disrupts the overall coherence of the piece. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical progression that leads to a finished conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'big amount', 'big role', and 'big heads' are imprecise and lack the academic tone required for IELTS Task 2. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'taken by government' instead of 'funded by the government' or 'conducted by'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise, academic vocabulary and collocations that are appropriate for a formal discussion on medical research and public policy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with article usage ('the government', 'the population'), subject-verb agreement ('common citizens has'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain awkward phrasing that hinders clarity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of missing capital letters at the start of sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct subject-verb agreement, and practicing the use of articles and prepositions in an academic context.
