Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent days, medical research projects are collected funds from private companies. I disagree with given notion. The narrative ahead shall articulate reasons of my belief before arriving at a rational conclusion.

Commencing with, latest medical research projets should funded by government because individuals can not afford these kind of research work. And it private companies provide funds to research, there will be a chance to misuse. To make it simple, private companies want profit from everything, if they done a sucessful project which funded by themselves. They charge huge amount of money in order to gain profit. In some cases middle class or poor people can not afford treatment because of higher medical fees. As a result, medical treatment become expensive for needy people, and it will not distributed equally to people. For exemple, many private pharma companies carried out latest research and treatments for diseases such as diabetes, cancer and other kinds of diseases. They developed medicine for local use but with higher prices. They sell it to hospitals to gain profit. So,it is not affordable for people who actually need.

However, government should funds to medical research projects. Because government have that finances. They have different kind of budget of every field. If they provide funds to research projects and have a right on patent. So, there will be a less chances of misuse. Government provide these treatment to needy people to a subsidize rate and recover that money from the highest taxpayers. This way society will balance out, and everyone should afford basic need like medical treatment. For instance, In some countries government have their own medical reseach facilities, where they conduct latest research projects to ensure nation's people health. So, they offer affordable treatments to everyone.

To conclude, in my opinion medical research projects are funded by government because they have budget for funding and they give treatment affordable prices. Private companies charge huge amount of money for same treatment in order to make profitable business.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the government should fund medical research. The ideas are relevant, focusing on the potential for profit-seeking behavior by private companies versus the public benefit of government-funded research. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the argument could be strengthened by exploring the role of individuals or the nuances of public-private partnerships. The response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis is limited by the vocabulary and grammatical constraints, keeping it at a mid-level band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Commencing with,' which is not a standard introductory phrase, and the repetitive use of 'So' to start sentences. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is occasionally choppy due to the limited range of linking words used.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word-choice errors, such as 'collected funds' instead of 'receive funding,' 'subsidize rate' instead of 'subsidized rate,' and 'have a right on patent' instead of 'hold patent rights.' While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles to use more sophisticated or academic terminology effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('government have that finances'), missing articles ('the government'), and incorrect verb forms ('should funded' instead of 'should be funded'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score.
