Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Yes nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies instead of the Government, if research is funded by private then it becomes a Faster process. For example any kind of research like medicine, During the covid time people did not get the paracetamol in Canada and that the only medicine work then India government help and sent millions of medicine to Canada, After so many research Canada got some salt medicine for lilies , project and research needs Funded to find the way or material plus workers so if both can be Funded by and private and government together so process should be fast,

furthermore Canada has a strong relationship with the India prime minister and with USA , is every one contribute for country future so that people can get easily access medicine and treatment, in 2026 Canada has shortage of medical people and they want to invest money in health , one of my family member has many health issue and he was not getting MRI test date due to waiting time is long, how people can survive, if both can be Funding so that be possible to improve the health concerns

in my opinion , I would say both private that government, focus on health and think for people

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address the prompt by suggesting a combination of public and private funding, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack logical depth. The examples provided, such as the reference to paracetamol during the pandemic and the personal anecdote about an MRI, are disjointed and do not clearly support the central argument. The position is stated but not consistently maintained or explored with sufficient detail. To improve, you must expand on your reasoning and provide more coherent, relevant examples to reach the required length and depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction or conclusion, and the paragraphing is ineffective, with ideas running together without clear transitions. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'if' and 'so'. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the sentences are often fragmented or lack logical connection to the previous point. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks for each main idea and employ a variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to guide the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There is a reliance on basic, repetitive language, such as 'medicine', 'research', and 'funded'. Some word choices are awkward or incorrect in context, such as 'salt medicine for lilies' and 'shortage of medical people'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an awareness of collocation. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to healthcare and economics, and practice using synonyms to avoid repetition. You should also aim to use more precise terminology to express your ideas clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, including run-on sentences and comma splices. Punctuation is inconsistent, and there are many errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'the Government', 'the India prime minister'). The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple or poorly constructed complex sentences. To improve, you must focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and work on mastering punctuation and article usage.
