Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the roles of government and private companies in medical research. However, the position is not fully developed. The arguments regarding 'taxes' and 'reducing stress on government' are somewhat superficial and lack logical depth. The prompt asks for an opinion on whether research should be carried out by private companies, individuals, or government, but the essay focuses primarily on funding rather than the actual execution of research. The conclusion is vague and does not clearly summarize the stance taken. To improve, you should provide more specific examples of why one entity might be more effective than another in conducting research, rather than just focusing on financial investment.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. While cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand' are used, they are sometimes followed by sentences that do not clearly link to the previous point. The referencing is occasionally confusing, such as the phrase 'if both invest funds on this' in the conclusion, which lacks a clear antecedent. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the development of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'high authorities' instead of 'government' and 'ample of reasons' (which is grammatically incorrect). You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with collocations. For example, 'invest money on' should be 'invest money in'. There are also spelling errors like 'commmerial' and 'reveled'. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary and use it with more precision, avoiding repetitive phrasing and ensuring that your word choices are appropriate for an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with sentence structure, such as the opening sentence which is a long, run-on fragment that lacks a clear main verb. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, for example, 'if they gives funds' and 'government who take action'. Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex structures.
