Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required 250-word minimum, reaching only 108 words. Because the essay is incomplete and stops mid-sentence, the task is not fully addressed. While you attempt to state a position, the ideas are severely underdeveloped and lack the necessary supporting evidence or logical conclusion required for an academic essay. The abrupt ending prevents a full exploration of the topic, resulting in a failure to meet the basic requirements of the task. To improve, you must ensure you write a full introduction, at least two body paragraphs with clear examples, and a concluding summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure due to its incomplete nature. While there is a basic attempt at paragraphing, the lack of a conclusion and the abrupt termination of the text make it difficult to follow a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used sparingly (e.g., 'Moreover', 'For instance'), but they are insufficient to connect the fragmented thoughts effectively. The lack of a clear introduction and body paragraph development means that the overall organization is not coherent. You need to focus on planning your essay structure before writing to ensure that your arguments flow logically from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision expected at higher bands. You use some relevant terms such as 'allocated', 'pharma giant', and 'medical research', but there are issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'deepest researching field' (which is unnatural) and 'competing to other countries' (should be 'competing with'). The range is limited by the brevity of the text. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the topic of research funding and ethics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For example, 'substantial proportion of funds allocated' is missing an article ('a substantial proportion'), and 'many private organization are competing' contains a subject-verb agreement error. There is also a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. The sentence 'Not only private organization but the government and research specialists were engaged...' is grammatically awkward. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct article usage, subject-verb agreement, and the use of complex structures like relative clauses to improve your accuracy and range.
