IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, substantial proportion of funds allocated for medical research projects by private organization, I believe medical research can be carried by private companies, the government and individuals, as medical research is open to all.

Medical research is the deepest researching field in the world, many private organizations are competing with peer companies for researching cures for diseases. Moreover, the competition in medical research developments going on for many decades. Not only private organization but the government and research specialists were engaged in the research as they were directly competing to other countries in medical research field. For instance, during the pandemic period various pharma giants like Pfizer, Zydus and the governments across the world were at comparison to find cure for deadly corona virus.

Additionally, in the medical research beside from private research organization, the government play a pivotal role for decades, for many centuries the government allocated large proportion of grants to the medical research fields. Notably, many individuals, research specialists were funded by the government for finding cure for diseases like, plague and leukemia in the past times. In addition to it, x-ray machines, CT scans, other crucial medical diagnostic machines were invented by the governments and research specialists. Furthermore, the role of government is undeniably indispensable, unlike private research organizations, at the end the invented drugs, medical equipments, tools and medicines, investigated under the government supervision for public health safety regulations.

To sum up, contribution of private research organization for developing medical facilities is crucially important, but the government is the primary founder and regulatory back bone of medical research. The role of government in terms of subsidizing funding , regulating price and implementing rule and regulation for public safety is still under the government body.
