Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is a debate if medical research projects should be funded by either private companies, individuals or government. Although, many people can carry out medical research due to many reasons best known to them which can benefit both themselves and public. In my perspective, I believe medical research projects should be funded by the government with the reasons discussed in the following paragraphs.
Medical research project is a fundamental public service which indicates that all individuals have the right and privilege to benefit from this services due to the fact that most medical research projects can be very expensive and most times most private companies or individuals give up on the process due to lack of financial resources and support to continue. Also, if government fund medical research projects information on how to improve or manage certain diseases conditions can be found and this helps improve the quality of various lives and this is also a good report on the side of the government. For instance, if solutions to cancer or Hiv are found from medical research, many individuals would benefit from this improvement and quality of life is increased and due to the fact is funded by government most of the health services can be offered either for free or half of the bills sorted out by the government which gives people who can't afford those kinds of treatment get the opportunity to be attended to.
However, this is not the case when an individual or private companies embark on a medical research project as many challenges can make the journey to be futile, for instance, the individual or private company might run out of funds and without good support they might give up. Also, they might become selfish when they discover a good improvement on medical health and the results ends up not becoming useful.
In my perspective, government should also fund medical research projects as this would help improve the quality of lives of many people just the same way they spend money on transportation and other utilities that has been helpful to people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of government funding. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. While you mention that private companies might become 'selfish' or run out of funds, the argument could be strengthened by exploring the potential benefits of private research, such as innovation and speed, before refuting them. The conclusion is a bit brief and simply restates the introduction rather than synthesizing the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph provides a distinct, well-supported argument rather than circling back to the same points about financial limitations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'However,' 'For instance,' and 'Also.' However, the use of 'Also' at the beginning of several sentences is repetitive and mechanical. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are slightly abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases, such as 'Furthermore,' 'Consequently,' or 'In contrast,' to create a smoother flow between your arguments and examples.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'good,' 'many,' and 'things.' Phrases such as 'best known to them' and 'good report on the side of the government' are slightly unnatural in an academic context. To improve, aim to use more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more topic-specific terminology related to public policy and medical research would significantly enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'There is a debate if' should be 'There is a debate as to whether,' and 'most times most private companies' is redundant. You also have issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'benefit from this services' instead of 'these services.' While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity and professional tone of the essay.
