Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 105 words. Because the task is incomplete, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you establish a clear position regarding the role of private companies in medical research, you fail to address the other parts of the prompt, such as the potential roles of individuals or the government. The argument is cut off mid-sentence, preventing a full exploration of the topic. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full introduction, body paragraphs that explore multiple perspectives, and a concluding summary, while meeting the minimum length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The text is too short to demonstrate a full range of cohesive devices or effective paragraphing. While there is a basic attempt to structure the argument with an introduction and a body paragraph, the abrupt ending makes it impossible to assess the overall logical progression of the essay. There is a lack of transition between the initial statement and the supporting example. To achieve a higher score, you need to use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and supporting details.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally functional but limited in range. You use some relevant terms like 'sponsored', 'financial benefits', and 'social betterment', but there are also errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'stopped involving in' (should be 'stopped from involving themselves in') and 'incurs by' (should be 'caused by'). The vocabulary is not yet sophisticated enough to convey complex arguments with precision. Focus on learning collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to ethics, economics, and public policy to improve your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For example, 'Usually these days several research programs related to medical are sponsored' is awkward; it should be 'related to medicine'. The sentence 'The major problem that incurs by the private companies' is grammatically incorrect. You rely on simple sentence structures, and the incomplete nature of the text prevents the demonstration of a wide range of complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and practicing more complex sentence structures like conditional clauses or passive voice constructions.
