Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you attempt to address the prompt by discussing government funding, the argument is underdeveloped and lacks depth. You do not sufficiently explore the roles of private companies or individuals as requested by the prompt. The position is somewhat clear, but the lack of supporting evidence and the brevity of the response mean that the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must expand your arguments with specific examples and ensure you address all components of the prompt, including the roles of private entities and individuals.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often unclear. While you use some cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'In conclusion', their usage is sometimes mechanical or misused, such as 'First hand side' instead of 'On the one hand'. The referencing is occasionally confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow your line of reasoning. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical flow. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, central topic sentence that connects logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which hinders the expression of more complex ideas. There are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'reserach', 'pruse', 'goverment', 'dontes', 'brillent', and 'benfical'. These errors, combined with basic word choices, make the text difficult to read at times. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing rather than demonstrating a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic task. To improve, you should focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic terms and attempt to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to medical research and funding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'many organizations demands' and 'every students is brillent'. Sentence structures are largely simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'this type of funding is very benfical for thats types of students who do not give much amount to do for project'. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Practicing sentence variety will also help you move toward higher bands.
