Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent years, many private organizations are funding some medical research projects. I believe, it should be done by private companies as it prevents prolong time for the results and it enables more workforce during the research.
One key benefit of conducting research projects by private organizations is it aids in mitigating the amount of time needed for the research. When such organizations are involved in a research, they ensured that they provide necessary equipment needed for it, thereby preventing any delay that might occurs due to insufficient funds or equipment. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the development of ideas. While you state a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped and the essay ends abruptly mid-sentence. To reach a higher band, you must provide a full introduction, two well-developed body paragraphs with specific examples, and a concluding summary. The current length prevents a full response to the prompt, as the second body paragraph is incomplete and lacks a conclusion. You need to expand on your reasoning and ensure all parts of the task are addressed in full.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows a basic attempt at paragraphing, but the abrupt ending disrupts the logical flow. You use some cohesive devices like 'One key benefit' and 'Another primary reason', which helps the reader follow the structure. However, because the essay is incomplete, the overall progression of ideas is hindered. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that your ideas are fully linked to the main argument before moving to the next point. Avoid ending sentences mid-thought, as this breaks the cohesion of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'mitigating', 'insufficient funds', and 'authentic results', but there are also some awkward collocations, such as 'prolong time' instead of 'prolonged time' or 'time-consuming'. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated academic vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are precise. Expanding your range of synonyms and collocations will help you express your ideas more naturally and effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are several grammatical errors that impact the clarity of your writing. For example, 'many private organizations are funding' should be 'have been funding' or 'fund', and 'preventing any delay that might occurs' should be 'might occur'. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate a wider range of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, while maintaining accuracy. Pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency throughout your writing.
