Student answer (Band 5.5)

Currently, most medical research projects are funded by private companies. However, I believe that medical research should be funded and carried out mainly by government because it benefits the whole society.

Firstly, government should be responsible for funding for research projects because their aim is to improve benefits of public rather than make profits. They invest money in research into new treatments and vaccines that may benefit a large number of people. Also provide many information to public which are beneficial and important for us in free of cost. for example, during a disease outbreak government funded research can help scientists develop vaccines and treatments. Another example is that they can also provide free medicines for needy peoples and also provide free treatment who can't buy these medicines for their treatment.

Conversely, private companies the project for medical care is about only to make profits rather than society progress. They make vaccines for outbreak disease, but they don't provide to public at reasonable prize and also innovate the new medicines and advance medical equipment in shorter time. for example, although private companies primarily aim to make profits.

To conclude, government companies invest fiancé in researching that projects which are beneficial fir our whole society and their main aim is that to provide benefit to people not to generate too much profit.

However, private companies can also play an important role to develop new medicines and technology but their main is generate too much profit. so that's why government funding is more important than private companies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of government-funded research. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide reasons such as the profit-driven nature of private companies versus the public-interest focus of the government, the arguments lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. The second body paragraph is particularly underdeveloped, ending abruptly with an incomplete sentence ('although private companies primarily aim to make profits'). To improve, ensure that every point is fully explained and supported with a complete, logical example that directly relates to the main argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'Conversely' is used to introduce the second body paragraph, but the subsequent text is fragmented and lacks a clear logical flow. Some sentences are repetitive, and the connection between ideas within paragraphs is sometimes weak. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the logical progression of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'make profits' and 'good' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'provide many information' (should be 'provide much information') and 'invest fiancé' (likely a misspelling of 'finance'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'public welfare,' 'commercial interests,' or 'subsidized,' and ensure accurate word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'government should be responsible for funding for research projects'), missing articles, and incorrect pluralization (e.g., 'needy peoples'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors and sentence fragments, such as the incomplete sentence in the second paragraph. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like article usage and verb tense consistency.
