Student answer (Band 6.0)
No one can deny that nowdays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. While other to think that individuals or governments should be responsible, In my opinion, governments should play the main role, although private companies can also make a valuable contribution.
On the one hand, all medical research is important for the well being of the whole population, so it should not depend mainly on profit. Governments can fund research into diseases and treatments that may not be commercially attractive to private companies. Moreover, goverment funded research can make essential medicines more affordable and accessible to the public. For example, research into rare diseases may benefit only a small number of patient, but it can still be extremely important for those people.
On the other hand, private companies also have some clear advantage. They uysually have large financial resources and can invest in modern technology and highly skilled researchers. As a result, they may be able to develop new medicines and treatment more quickly. In addition, competition between companies can encourage innovation and improve the quality of medical products. However, private organisation may focus more on projects that can generate high profits, which could limit research in less profitable areas.
In conclusion, although private companies can contribute significantly to medical research through investment and innovation. I believe that governments should have thet primary responsibility. They can ensure that research focus on public health rather than only on financial gain. A combination of government support and private inveatment would therefore be the most effective approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that governments should take the lead while acknowledging the role of private companies. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, such as the discussion on rare diseases versus profit-driven research. However, the development is somewhat concise. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific examples or elaborate further on the consequences of private-only funding. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes the main points, suggesting a balanced approach.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation, such as the comma splice in the final paragraph ('...investment and innovation. I believe...'). Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring sentence boundaries are correctly marked would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'commercially attractive,' 'accessible,' and 'innovation.' There are some spelling errors, such as 'nowdays' (nowadays), 'goverment' (government), 'uysually' (usually), and 'inveatment' (investment). These errors do not impede communication, but they do suggest a lack of precision. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or academic phrases to elevate the tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'While other to think' (While others think) and 'research focus' (research focuses). Additionally, there are minor punctuation errors, such as the fragment in the conclusion. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that every sentence has a clear, complete structure.
