Student answer (Band 5.5)

Lately , researches show that a lot of medical researches are carried by private companies opening the debate of whether those precious researches should be funded by either private contributors , peoples or government .

It's widely known the importance of medical researches in the development of the humanity and its survival showing in the medicine developement to deadly and contagious diseases like corona virus , cancer ... As well it's known that costs for this researches are very high which need a strong funding from either government , private companies or individuals.

In my opinion , i think high cost researches like medicals can't be carried from private companies nor individuals but it's completly the responsibility of government for several reasons .

Because medical researches need a great funding to obtain a lot of important equipements like laboratories , machines and rare compositions and it's quite impossible for a single or a group of persons to cover all those costs , therefor, the government's financial supply is important in order to make those researches.

Furthermore , private companies are prefered to not fund those experiments because public cures and medicines can't be for the public access or even they can be high priced and people can't afford medicines which leads to death and many people would suffer from diseases like when it was invented the cure to COVID the prices of vaccines were very high and many government took loans to save their citizens lives, therefor government should prevent private companies from funding medical researches .

In conclusion , funding medical researches is the responsibility of the government in order to keep their moral values .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the government should be the primary funder of medical research. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the high costs of equipment and the potential for private companies to inflate prices, the arguments could be more nuanced. For instance, you could have explored the benefits of private-public partnerships or the role of individual philanthropy more deeply. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the main points discussed. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation and a concrete example to support your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In conclusion', and 'therefore', though the use of 'therefor' is misspelled and occasionally repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences can sometimes feel mechanical. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between your arguments is smoother, rather than relying on simple additive connectors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'medical researches' (which is grammatically incorrect as 'research' is an uncountable noun) and 'high cost'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'financial supply' instead of 'financial support' or 'funding'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and avoid repeating the same terms throughout the essay. Focus on using more precise terminology related to economics and public policy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'researches show'), incorrect article usage, and punctuation errors. For example, 'when it was invented the cure to COVID' is syntactically awkward. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency.
