Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to address the specific prompt regarding medical research funding. Instead, the essay discusses the general impact of technology or the internet on society, mentioning 'convenience,' 'real-life interactions,' and 'active lifestyle.' This is a significant off-topic error. While the essay follows a standard structure, the content does not engage with the question of whether private companies, individuals, or the government should fund medical research. Consequently, the position is unclear and the ideas are irrelevant to the task requirements. To improve, you must carefully analyze the prompt and ensure your arguments directly relate to the specific topic provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'In addition to this,' and 'In conclusion.' However, the logical progression is hampered by the fact that the ideas themselves are disconnected from the prompt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences feels mechanical. To achieve a higher band, focus on ensuring that each paragraph develops a single, relevant idea that supports your central argument, and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your thoughts more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally simple and repetitive. Phrases like 'highly debated topic,' 'modern society,' and 'deep impact' are common but lack the precision required for a higher score. There are also some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'Form my personal perspective' (should be 'From') and 'used its sensibly' (should be 'use it'). The range of vocabulary is limited to basic, everyday language. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific terminology and avoid repetitive phrasing by using synonyms and more sophisticated academic collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The increasing trend of medical research projects are funded' (subject-verb agreement error), 'IT open up' (should be 'it opens up'), and 'which especially important' (missing verb 'is'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with missing commas after introductory phrases. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring all sentences have a clear subject and verb.
