Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. Although private companies can make a valuable contribution in medical and research projects fields, but government can protect it more better way that private sectors.

There are several reasons why government funded is essential in this modern era. First, government in responsible to protect the entire population instead of particular nation or society. They can also protect the less valuable project. For example, research into rare diseases or preventive healthcare may receive limited commercial investment because the potential market is relatively small. Government funded projects can fill the gap and ensure that important health problems are not neglected.

Private companies, however, also have and important role to play. They often have good financial resources advanced technology and researchers. Moreover, competition between the companies can encourage better the people of the society as compare to the government authorities. For instance, pharmaceutical companies have played a major role in developing vaccines and treatments for the diseases. Nevertheless, their research may be influenced by the possibility of making profits, which can sometime result in expensive medicines or insufficient attention to less profitable areas.

In conclusion, I believe medical research should be funded and supervised by governments, while private companies should be encouraged to participate. This combination would allow society to benefit from private sectors innovation wihile ensuring that research remains focused on public health rather that profit alone

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing the roles of government and private companies in medical research. However, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement (235 words), which negatively impacts the development of ideas. While the position is clear, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended. For instance, the point about 'less valuable projects' is a good start but lacks a specific, well-developed example to fully illustrate the point. The conclusion provides a balanced summary, but the overall brevity limits the depth of the analysis required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'First', 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'Nevertheless' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is a bit mechanical. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the lack of sufficient length prevents a more sophisticated flow of information. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and supports the structure of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are some attempts at using topic-specific vocabulary like 'preventive healthcare', 'commercial investment', and 'pharmaceutical companies'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'government funded is essential' (should be 'government funding') and 'protect it more better way' (should be 'protect it in a better way'). The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and varied vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'government in responsible' (should be 'government is responsible'), 'instead of particular nation' (should be 'instead of a particular nation'), and 'encourage better the people' (which is unclear). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor errors such as missing commas. The frequency of these errors suggests that the writer has not yet achieved full control over complex structures.
