Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by arguing that medical research should be funded by the government. However, the development of ideas is limited. The essay relies heavily on a single personal anecdote about a water project to support a complex argument about medical research, which is not fully relevant. The position is clear, but the reasoning lacks depth and fails to explore the potential benefits of private or individual funding, which would have provided a more balanced and comprehensive discussion. The essay is somewhat repetitive, and the arguments are not fully extended to meet the requirements for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. It is written as two long, dense paragraphs that do not follow a logical progression of ideas. There is a lack of cohesive devices; sentences are often linked by simple punctuation or lack transitions entirely, making the flow disjointed. For example, the transition from discussing medical research to the personal anecdote about a water purifier is abrupt. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion, which hinders the overall readability and logical flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'research', 'company', and 'government'. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'on peak in medical field' and 'disease never'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles to express more complex ideas with precision. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the presence of errors in collocation and word formation prevent the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'humanity facing a lots of challenges'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, such as 'what if one research is funding by some private company and all of sudden or unfortunately the company goes in loss what next nothing the project is going to be stoped'. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, and there is a lack of control over complex grammatical forms.
