Student answer (Band 5.5)

Medical research projects carried out are often the source for new technological and biological advancements. Many of these research projects are funded by private companies. While this essay discuss whether these researches should be carried by the private companies ,individuals or the government, I firmly believe that as long as these researches are being funded well and are for the betterment of the society, it shouldn't be a problem.

Medical research projects often lead to the uncovered discoveries or the hidden parameters of the science that are unknown to the human kind. These research projects require funding for the equipment and the study from various resources. These fundings are essential for finding the cure of diseases like cancer, tumor and few uncurable diseases. Furthermore, fundings required are in large amounts that needs proper equipment and labs. Private companies often pay more for researches so as they can make profit through these findings by making relatable patents. Additionally, they can use these findings to train a particular set of people, skill force them and make profit out of it. Governments have a limited cost defined for fields like research which are usually not enough to carry out medical researches. Individuals as long as have proper fundings can carry out and make the best outcome for these researches.

I believe researches do require an amount, especially medical ones. Though the research demand money, but, overall, these could turn beneficial for the human kind in the upcoming future.

In conclusion, According to the bandwidth of the research being carried out with subject to the disease in consideration, funding becomes an important factor, whether by private, government or individual resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the funding of medical research, but the development of ideas is limited. While you mention private companies, government, and individuals, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the claim that 'individuals as long as have proper fundings can carry out' research is vague and lacks a concrete example or logical justification. The position is stated in the introduction, but the supporting paragraphs do not fully explore the implications of each funding source. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides a clear, well-supported argument that directly relates to the prompt's question about who should carry out the research.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion', the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the discussion of private companies and the mention of individuals in the second paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are repetitive, such as the repeated focus on 'funding' without clearly linking it to the specific roles of the three entities mentioned in the prompt. Improving the use of referencing and logical connectors would help create a more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'research projects' and 'fundings' (note: 'funding' is an uncountable noun and should not be pluralised). Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'skill force them' and 'relatable patents'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'commercialisation', 'public sector', 'philanthropic', or 'scientific inquiry', and ensure you use nouns correctly in terms of countability.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have several grammatical errors, such as 'this essay discuss' (should be 'discusses'), 'researches' (research is uncountable), and 'human kind' (usually 'humankind'). The sentence 'Though the research demand money, but, overall, these could turn beneficial' contains a redundant 'but' after 'though'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall fluency. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of uncountable nouns to improve your accuracy.
