Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, significant amount of changes and revolutions have take place in the world of research. Funding medical research by private companies is the most controversial among all of these. According to me, this could lead to several consequences and some advantages also. But, it is preferable that these medical research work should be funded by governments rather than private organizations.
Private companies are have the facilities and the instruments, which are necessary for carrying out any research. Furthermore, they also have a dedicated team of highly qualified scientists and researchers to conduct a research. Several under developed and developing countries do not have these facilities and qualified scientists, due to lack of funds, facilities and resources. Due to this reasons, private organizations takes the responsibility for research and development, addressing the concerns and issues faced due to lack of resources.
However, there are several consequences which follows with this approach, such as, violation of ethical values and concerns, risk and threat of overexploitation. In addition, these organizations lack the financial and economical stability, which does not promises the long term success. Moreover, research carried out by an individual also have the potential risks of biased approach, and there are several examples of it, where an organization violates the ethical values, performing research and conducting experiments without safety measures only to make sure that they do not loose in the competition with other private companies. For example, the space race between USA and Soviet Union, where both the nations were competing with each other, leading to several consequences, ending up with the deaths of humans.
Therefore, it can be concluded that, regardless of several advantageous and beneficial outcomes of medical research projects getting funds by private companies, the demerits should not be undermined of violation of ethical values. So, government should always be responsible for funding such research projects.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt by stating your position clearly in the introduction and supporting it throughout the essay. You discuss the role of private companies, individuals, and governments, providing reasons for your preference for government funding. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat uneven. The example regarding the 'space race' is not entirely relevant to medical research, which weakens the logical support for your argument. To improve, ensure that your examples are directly related to the specific topic of medical research rather than general scientific competition. Your position is consistent, but the depth of analysis could be enhanced by providing more specific, relevant evidence regarding medical ethics or public health outcomes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', 'In addition', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. For instance, the jump from the benefits of private research to the ethical concerns is a bit abrupt. Additionally, the referencing in the third paragraph is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing 'these organizations' and 'an individual'. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would help achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'controversial', 'overexploitation', and 'undermined'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'significant amount of changes', 'does not promises', and 'loose in the competition'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that your word forms (e.g., nouns vs. verbs) are accurate. Expanding your vocabulary to include more topic-specific terminology related to medical research and public policy would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive step. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('private companies are have', 'private organizations takes', 'research... have the potential') and article usage errors ('the space race between USA'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your intended meaning. To improve, you should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tense usage. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you move into the higher band range.
