Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear preference for government-funded research. However, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the position is clear, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack depth. The discussion regarding private companies is somewhat repetitive and relies on anecdotal examples that are not fully explained. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed reasoning and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a more comprehensive exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical and sometimes confusing. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally inaccurate, such as the transition 'which are discussed in forthcoming paragraph'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between sentences is weak. The conclusion is abrupt and does not effectively summarize the main points. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would greatly enhance the logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'care people health' instead of 'public health' and 'earned money' instead of 'profit-oriented'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the topic of medical research and public policy, while also working on your spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'government have many responsibility'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, making them difficult to follow. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and preposition usage.
