Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 209 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you attempt to address the prompt by arguing for government-funded research, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. The examples provided, such as 'roads and motor ways', are not directly relevant to the core issue of medical research funding. The position is clear, but the lack of development and the failure to meet the length requirement prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you fully explore the implications of your argument and provide specific, relevant examples that directly relate to medical research.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'firstly', 'secondly', and 'in conclusion' to structure the text. However, the logical progression is often hindered by fragmented sentences and unclear referencing. For example, the transition between discussing general government services and medical research is abrupt. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, with ideas often feeling like a list of points rather than a cohesive argument. The conclusion is incomplete, which further disrupts the overall flow of the essay. Improving the use of linking phrases and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'good', 'people', and 'government'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'State should take good agreements' and 'government construed hospitals'. These errors occasionally make the meaning difficult to follow. There is little attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary appropriate for an IELTS Task 2 essay. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to research, funding, and public policy, and practice using synonyms to avoid repeating the same words throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('medical research projects are funded' vs 'is funded'), article usage ('the government'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, such as 'In my opinion, that government carried fund I completely I agree with this view.' The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. Complex structures are attempted but are almost always inaccurate, which impedes communication. A significant focus on basic grammar, specifically sentence construction and verb tenses, is necessary to improve your score.
