Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, it is believed that many medical research projects are funded by the private companies. There is considerable debate that whether the research should be carried by private sector, individuals or governments. I partly agree that private companies are also doing great in the healthcare and serving citizens while government should also introduce measures to improve the medical research system.
One of the significant benefits of private research is that it helps private institutions and hospitals in their advancement. By having advanced facilities they provide swift and modern treatment facilities to the patients in the private hospitals. Students at the private medical institutions take part in the private or individual research which help them to gain important knowledge and serve the country and people. For instance, in Pakistan Shifa International Hospital is a private institute doing great in serving the people of the country with modern equipped facilities and hygiene. Therefore, private sector have important part in promoting the medical facilities of the nation.
However, it is important equally important for the government to take active part in the intensive medical research. When research is conducted at national level it secure more fundings and provide more opportunities to the educated and aspiring citizens to take part and give back to their society. Consequently, it improves the research system in the government institutions and hospitals in the different parts of the country, and provides easy access to the better education and research led procedures in the local government hospitals.
In conclusion, private sectors exhibit most in providing smooth and reliable medical facilities, but the importance of the government led research is equally important to boost the government institutes and hospitals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the roles of private companies and the government in medical research. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the benefits of private research, the explanation remains quite general. The example of Shifa International Hospital is relevant but could be better integrated to explain how it specifically contributes to medical research rather than just general healthcare. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting arguments are more thoroughly explored and linked back to the core question of who should fund research.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'One of the significant benefits,' 'However,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is mostly accurate, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect ideas more fluidly. Overall, the structure is sufficient to follow your argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'advancement,' 'intensive,' and 'aspiring.' However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'private sector have important part' (should be 'has an important part') and 'exhibit most in providing' (which is slightly unnatural). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'debate that whether' (should be 'debate as to whether'), 'it secure more fundings' (should be 'it secures more funding'), and 'in the different parts' (unnecessary article). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You show an attempt at complex structures, but the control over subject-verb agreement and article usage needs more attention to ensure accuracy in more complex sentences.
