Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 169 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments regarding the roles of private companies and the government are superficial and lack sufficient supporting examples. While the essay attempts to address the prompt by discussing private sector involvement in medical research, the lack of depth and the incomplete conclusion mean that the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must expand your arguments with specific examples and ensure the essay reaches the required length to fully explore the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no paragraphing, which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. While some cohesive devices like 'In addition to' and 'So' are used, they are often applied incorrectly or repetitively, leading to a disjointed flow. The logical progression is hindered by the lack of clear topic sentences and transitions between the role of the government and the role of private companies. To improve, you should organize your response into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs with clear supporting points, and a conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms such as 'good job', 'very vast', and 'very harmfull'. There are frequent errors in word formation and spelling, such as 'compitation', 'intrest', and 'sucess'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to discuss the topic with any degree of precision or sophistication. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to medical research and government policy, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'researching programme which is organise' and 'many private companies involve'. Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent capitalization and missing spaces after periods. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences, and those that are attempted often contain errors. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and correct punctuation usage.
