In this contemporary era, many advanced medical treatments or modern medicines breakthroughs or research are often carried out by private companies instead of individuals or government. On one hand, many medical research projects are often funded by private companies instead of government. The biggest reason of this is because of profit. Private companies prioritize applied research and clinical trials that lead to marketable drugs, products, medical devices or treatment with clear expected return. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 158 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you introduce a clear position regarding the role of private companies in medical research, the essay is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence. Because the response is unfinished, the arguments are not fully developed or supported with sufficient detail. To improve, you must ensure you complete the task by providing a full introduction, well-supported body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Addressing all parts of the prompt fully is essential for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a basic attempt at logical organization. You use transition signals like 'On one hand' and 'However' to connect ideas, which helps the reader follow the intended flow. However, because the text is incomplete, the overall structure is fragmented. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending prevents a coherent conclusion. To improve, focus on ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that your ideas are fully expanded before moving to the next point. Using a wider variety of cohesive devices, such as 'consequently' or 'furthermore', would also enhance the logical progression of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary era', 'medical advancement', and 'clinical trials'. There are some minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'imbalancement' (imbalance) and 'cause by its' (caused by it). These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring word forms are accurate. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic, topic-specific terminology will also help strengthen your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Critics argued that this an unhealthy phenomenon' (missing verb 'is') and 'the largest producer' (should be plural 'producers'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete nature of the text makes it difficult to assess your control over longer, more complex sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically sound. Proofreading for small errors like missing articles or incorrect verb tenses will help improve your accuracy.
