Student answer (Band 6.5)

The advent of technological innovations and advancements in the field of medical-based research projects is becoming more evident as time progresses. These ventures, however, require huge amounts of capital to sustain and bear prolific results.

A large number of private companies and industries have pledged to provide contingency to the cause of medical research. These sectors have a systematic and pragmatic approach to solving any sort of challenge. They can provide financial support to these researches while following all rules and regulations abiding by their values. Moreover, as the company evolves, the funds for these activities also rise. This can be important for medical facilities, as they feel more confident and are assured of future aid.

Conversely, the government sector may seem important for medical advancement projects, as governmental bodies have large amounts of capital for their projects. However, their approach lacks a systematic way of dealing with the money. Moreover, there may be delays in crediting funds to the projects. This is due to the stringent approval process that is followed in the government. Apart from the private and government sectors, another source is willing people. People can donate toward the development of medicine studies; however, the frequency of such proposals can be sporadic. This poses a large setback to the studies, as there is a continuous requirement of sufficient funds to continue work.

In conclusion, there can be many financers for the development of medical-based research work, but those with the highest stability and ease of access are the private sectors. While private sectors may be beneficial for urgent needs, government-aided research can provide help for bigger projects.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing private companies, government, and individuals as potential funding sources. You maintain a clear position throughout, ultimately favoring private sector involvement. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, your critique of government funding as lacking a 'systematic way of dealing with money' is a broad generalization that could be strengthened with a concrete example of a specific medical project or a more nuanced explanation of bureaucratic hurdles. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting arguments are more thoroughly explored rather than just stated.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each sector, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Conversely,' and 'Apart from' to transition between ideas, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, some of the linking is slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the benefits of private funding to the drawbacks of government and individual support. To improve, try to vary your cohesive devices further to ensure the flow feels more natural and less like a list of points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'technological innovations,' 'contingency,' 'pragmatic,' and 'stringent.' There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'provide contingency to the cause,' which is not a standard collocation. Additionally, 'medicine studies' would be better phrased as 'medical research.' While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the precision is occasionally lacking. Expanding your range of collocations and ensuring that words are used in their most natural context will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free, which allows for easy communication. There are occasional minor errors, such as 'these researches' (research is an uncountable noun) and 'the government sector may seem important for medical advancement projects' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). Your control of punctuation is generally good. To move into the higher bands, focus on eliminating these small grammatical slips and incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses or more sophisticated passive constructions, to demonstrate greater grammatical flexibility.
