Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing the roles of government and private companies in medical research. However, the response is incomplete, as the final paragraph ends abruptly mid-sentence ('ensure that res'). While a position is stated, the development of ideas is limited by the unfinished nature of the text. The arguments regarding government responsibility and private profit motives are relevant but lack sufficient depth or specific examples to reach a higher band. To improve, ensure that all points are fully developed and that the essay reaches a natural, complete conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at logical progression. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'However' are used to link ideas. However, the abrupt ending significantly disrupts the flow and coherence of the final section. Additionally, some transitions feel mechanical. To improve, focus on ensuring that each paragraph flows logically into the next and that the conclusion provides a cohesive summary of the arguments presented, rather than trailing off mid-sentence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, though there are several spelling errors, such as 'fiancial', 'realed', 'diseses', 'poder', and 'governemnt'. These errors are noticeable but do not generally impede communication. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited; using more precise academic collocations would enhance the quality of the writing. For example, instead of 'put forth my views', one could use 'articulate my perspective'. Focusing on accurate spelling and expanding your repertoire of academic vocabulary will help improve your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'they can used advanced technology' (should be 'use'), 'some medicines may be become expensive', and 'this private companies' (should be 'these'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the final paragraph. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Working on subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency will be beneficial for future tasks.
