Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent time most of the medical research projects are funded by the private companies.I think that research should be carried by the government rather then the individuals and private companies because government focus only their research projects and improve the public health. While private companies focus on their income instead of improvement.

In this modern era many research projects held by the governments. One of the main advantage is to they do not focus on their profit. They improve the public health by the disease identification and drug tolerance. For example many pharmaceutical company govern by the government they conduct many clinical trials in their laboratories and it totally funded by them and their authorities.

Another main advantage is that governments maintain the records of their medical research projects and it well organised and provide accurate information. If any problem arrise during the research they help to the researcher with possible solutions. All the medical equipments and materials that use in research that also funded by the governments. For example they provide some iron and folic acid tablets in rural areas by the effective research projects at free of cost.

Although private companies also help in the disease identification and health management by mainly focus on profits. For example some private research companies provide effective vaccines to treat the any disease but later it demonstrate the product and sell in the market by the purpose of profit.

In conclusion, medical research projects are essential to the improve public health and it funded by the governments instead of the private companies to focus on the effectiveness of medicines rather then the marketing and profits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that medical research should be funded and carried out by the government rather than private companies or individuals. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations, such as governments focusing on public health rather than profit and maintaining organized records, as seen in the example where 'they provide some iron and folic acid tablets in rural areas by the effective research projects at free of cost.' However, some points are slightly repetitive or under-developed, particularly regarding the role of individuals, which is not deeply explored. The overall task is addressed sufficiently to meet the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and paragraphs are generally used to separate distinct ideas. Progression is visible, moving from government benefits to private sector profit motives. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. There is a frequent lack of appropriate transition words, and some referencing is unclear, such as 'One of the main advantage is to they do not focus on their profit.' Paragraphing and cohesive devices need more flexibility and accuracy to achieve a higher band score. Therefore, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, touching on relevant themes such as 'medical research projects', 'pharmaceutical company', 'clinical trials', and 'health management'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are often accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'disease identification and drug tolerance' or 'govern by the government'. Additionally, there are spelling and phrasing errors like 'arrise' instead of 'arise'. Despite these limitations, the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the central message without severely impeding communication, fitting the Band 5.5 profile.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response exhibits a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, though complex structures are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar, punctuation, and articles, such as 'In recent time most of the medical research projects are funded by the private companies' (missing commas and prepositions), 'research should be carried by the government' (passive voice error), and 'treat the any disease'. While these errors are noticeable and cause some difficulty for the reader, communication is not entirely impeded, allowing the essay to secure a Band 5.0.
