Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, a large amount of meducal research is funded by private companies. Although these companies can make a valuable contribution . I believe that govenment ashould also have main responsibility for meducal research because healthcare affect the entire population.

The first significant reason is that government can focus on public health rather then profit.Private companies usually invest in research that has the potential to generate financial returns. As a result they may pay less attention towards the people who face the diseases that can affect a small number of peoples and they can not take treatment because they can not afford that much fund Government can provide fund to the research centre .For example, they can support research into rare diseaes vaccines and affordable treatments for common or major treatments as well.

Another vital point is that medical requires strict rules ad regulations or mainely they requires Transparrancy. Government funded institutions can establish and ensure that research is conducted ethically. If companies are given complete control there could be risk that finance intrest influence their result or the decisions.

However i do not think private companies should be excluded. They often have advanced technology and skilled researcher as well . Therefore, cooperation between government and privaqte organisationcan make is more faster and more effective .

In conclusion, although private companies and individuals can make pivotal contributions to the medical research. I believe that governments should take Lead Role. This would be help ensure the medical research that this research is based on the primaerily on public need, safety and long term benefits rather than commercial profits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on who should fund medical research, arguing primarily for government responsibility while acknowledging the role of private companies. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning rare disease vaccines and treatments for common conditions. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas lack full depth and development, leaning towards generalisations. For instance, the discussion on regulations and transparency could be elaborated further with more specific examples. Nonetheless, the core requirements of the prompt are fully met, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression throughout. Paragraphing is utilised effectively, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs addressing different viewpoints, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, although some are used mechanically or are slightly awkward, such as 'The first significant reason is that...' and 'Another vital point is that...'. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional mechanical transitions impede seamless flow. The progression of ideas remains easy to follow from the stance on public health to ethical regulations and eventual cooperation, which comfortably places this response in Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'financial returns', 'ethically', and 'pivotal contributions'. However, there are notable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'meducal', 'govenment', 'ashould', 'diseaes', 'ad', 'mainely', 'Transparrancy', 'finance', 'privaqte', and 'primaerily'. While these spelling and word-choice errors do not severely impede communication, their frequency prevents the response from achieving a higher band. The lexical range is minimally sufficient for Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over conditional and subordinate clauses, such as 'Although these companies can make a valuable contribution...'. However, there are numerous grammatical errors, including missing articles ('because healthcare affect', 'take Lead Role'), incorrect verb forms ('medical requires', 'they requires'), and punctuation issues. Sentence structures can be repetitive and sometimes awkward, causing minor strain for the reader. Despite these frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, communication is rarely completely impeded, corresponding to a Band 5.5.
