Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of private companies in funding medical research, taking a clear position in favour of private funding due to government limitations and potential profits. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. For example, the student mentions that governments do not have enough money and that private companies invest for good profits, but these points are under-developed and lack specific, well-reasoned support. Phrases like 'For instance, in USA, many private companies envest money on private medical sectors' attempt to provide examples, but they remain vague and generalized. While all parts of the task are touched upon, the lack of depth and overly generalized arguments place this response at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some organization with basic paragraphing and introductory and concluding remarks, but there is a lack of clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the excessive use of 'To commence with', 'To be more precise', and 'For instance', many of which are awkwardly phrased or mechanically applied. For instance, the transition 'On the other hand, there are some other bright side of the circumstance' is unnatural. Referencing and substitution are occasionally unclear, making the logical flow disjointed at times. These issues align with the Band 5.0 descriptors for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'boomng', 'finace', 'envest', and 'qaulity', but frequent spelling mistakes ('finace' instead of financed, 'envest' instead of invest, 'qaulity' instead of quality) and awkward word choices ('medical research are boomng', 'number second') restrict the range. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, the density of lexical errors and lack of precision prevent it from reaching a higher band, making Band 4.5 appropriate, rounded to 5.0 based on standard half-band increments, though 4.5 is also acceptable. Let us evaluate as Band 4.5 or 5.0; given the frequent spelling and word choice errors straining comprehension slightly, Band 4.5 fits well, but adhering strictly to half bands, Band 5.0 represents a limited but minimally adequate range with noticeable errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay displays a very limited range of structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and awkward attempts at complex structures that are frequently faulty. Numerous grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('medical research are boomng', 'government have not enough money'), missing articles ('in USA', 'is best in medical sector'), and incorrect preposition usage ('envest money on'). Punctuation is also problematic with spacing and missing commas. These frequent errors cause strain for the reader and reflect the Band 4.0 to 5.0 descriptors, specifically fitting the Band 4.0 profile due to the high frequency of basic grammatical errors distorting meaning in places.
