Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, many medical projects are funded by private companies. In my opinion although private companies and individuals can contribute to medical research, the goverment should play the leading role in fundingit. This is because government should focous on public health rather than profit and can ensure the research benefits.
To begin with, private companies have all the facilities and advanced technology to make any kind of mediciens due to it they make a lot of profit by selling it on high prices. They always focus on dangerous diesases such as Cancer, Malaria and HIV and ignore the small illnesses that affecting community. Moreover, these companies do advertisment of their mediciens by which it gain more public attention. Private companies always pay attention towards new mediciens and medical equipement.
In contrast, government can support research that is important for society. It can also make sure medicines are available at affordabale prices for everyone. Individuals can also help by donating money to hospitals or research organigations. Although, their support is useful, they cannot provide enough funds for large medical projects. In addition, authorities needs to impelement some free health care programs in every sectors so community can take free heath care checkups.
In conclusion, I believe the government should provide most

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position that the government should take the lead in funding medical research compared to private companies and individuals. The writer attempts to support this with reasons related to public health versus profit, and the role of individuals through donations. However, the task achievement is heavily constrained by the severe under-length issue, as the essay contains only 209 words against the required 250-word minimum, leaving the conclusion incomplete and several ideas under-developed. Consequently, the main parts of the task are only partially covered due to the truncation. This corresponds to a Band 5 based on the descriptors for incomplete task fulfilment and limited idea development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates some basic organization with clear paragraph breaks and basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In contrast', and 'In conclusion'. Ideas are generally grouped logically, with the first body paragraph focusing on private companies, the second on government and individuals, and a brief attempt at a conclusion. However, referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall progression is disrupted because the essay cuts off abruptly at the end ('In conclusion, I believe the government should provide most'). While paragraphing is attempted, cohesion is somewhat mechanical and limited. This aligns well with the Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'medical research projects', 'private companies', 'public health', and 'donating money'. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'goverment' instead of government, 'focous' instead of focus, 'mediciens' instead of medicines, 'diesases' instead of diseases, 'advertisment' instead of advertisement, 'equipement' instead of equipment, 'affordabale' instead of affordable, 'organigations' instead of organizations, 'impelement' instead of implement, and 'heath' instead of health. These spelling mistakes and occasional word choice errors ('on high prices' instead of at high prices, 'small illnesses that affecting community') cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5 criteria.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using conjunctions like 'although', 'because', and 'while'. However, control over grammar and punctuation is weak, and there are frequent errors. Examples include run-on sentences and punctuation omissions in the introduction ('In my opinion although private companies...'), subject-verb agreement issues ('small illnesses that affecting community', 'authorities needs to impelement', 'every sectors'), and missing words ('fundingit'). Attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. These persistent errors that occasionally cause difficulty place the grammar performance at a Band 5 level.
