Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by discussing whether medical research should be funded by private companies or governments. A clear personal position is presented, as seen in statements like "I really believe private companies work better than governments." However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. While the writer mentions examples such as the US, Saudi Arabia, and European countries, these points are underdeveloped and rely on over-generalizations rather than specific, well-supported arguments. Furthermore, the prompt also asks about "individuals," which is largely neglected in the text. Overall, the task is addressed only partially, placing this performance in the Band 5 category.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is weak and lacks a clear overarching structure. The use of cohesive devices is frequently mechanical, inaccurate, or confusing, such as "many people says, private companies comes to the medical field they better then government" and "On the other hand mostly public says." Referencing and substitution are frequently faulty, making it difficult to follow the flow of arguments between sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion fails to connect ideas smoothly, resulting in a performance that aligns with Band 4.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors that strain the reader. Examples include "medical researches good for human begins life" (human beings' lives) and "technogical intellegence era." The student attempts less common vocabulary such as "establishment" and "technological," but these are misused in context. Spelling mistakes (e.g., "trasplant," "convinent," "intellegence") and incorrect word forms are pervasive throughout the text. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for conveying very basic thoughts, corresponding to a Band 4.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple sentences strung together with punctuation errors or conjunctions. When the student attempts complex sentences, they are almost invariably faulty and ungrammatical, such as in "Mostly private companies provide huge amount of funding the mainly purpose only to introduce best medical life." Subject-verb agreement errors, tense inconsistencies, and missing articles occur in nearly every sentence. These frequent errors severely impede communication and prevent the reader from easily understanding the intended meaning, placing the grammar firmly in the Band 4.0 bracket.
