Student answer (Band 6.0)

IN CURRENT TIMES, PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS ARE FINANCE IN SEVERAL MEDICAL PROJECTS. IN MY POINT OF VIEW, I BELIVED THAT THE EXPERIMENTS ARE CONCLUDED BY BOTH GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE FIRMS COOPERATION WHICH IS GIVES WIDER ACCESSIBILITY OF INFORMATION AND REQUIRD FUNDING FOR THE RESEARCH.

TO COMMENCE WITH, GOVERNMENTS PLAYS IMPORTANT ROLE IN MEDICAL BECAUSE IT IS DIRECTALY AFFECTS PEOPLE'S LIVES.Government-funded research is usually designed to improve public health rather than simply make a profit. For example, governments can support research into rare diseases or illnesses that may not attract private investment because they are less profitable. In addition, public authorities can introduce strict rules and ethical standards to make sure that medical experiments are safe and reliable. Therefore, government involvement can increase public trust in medical research.

On the other hand, private companies can also make a significant contribution to medical development. Medical research often requires a large amount of money, modern laboratories and highly qualified researchers. Private pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies may have enough financial resources to invest in new medicines, vaccines and medical equipment. Moreover, competition among companies can encourage faster innovation. For instance, several companies may work on different treatments for the same disease, which can increase the possibility of finding an effective solution.

However, allowing only private companies to control medical research could create some problems. Since businesses mainly aim to earn profits, they may concentrate more on profitable medicines than on treatments that are urgently needed by society.

In conclusion, I believe that medical research should not be controlled entirely by governments, individuals or private companies. A joint effort between governments and private firms is the most practical approach because it combines sufficient funding and innovation with public responsibility and proper regulation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response effectively addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the roles of private companies and governments in medical research and clearly establishing a well-supported position. The introduction introduces the writer's view that collaboration between governments and private firms is ideal. Body paragraph one explores the advantages of government-funded research, including a focus on public health and ethical standards. Body paragraph two examines the financial resources and innovative capacity of private pharmaceutical companies. The following paragraph notes the drawbacks of profit-driven research, leading to a coherent conclusion. Ideas are well-developed and supported with relevant examples, such as research into rare diseases and competitive vaccine development. The response earns a band 7.0 for fully addressing all parts with a clear, supported position throughout, though some arguments could be extended further to reach higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with clear progression throughout. It follows a traditional essay structure, featuring an introductory paragraph, three body paragraphs covering different facets of the debate, and a summary conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'TO COMMENCE WITH', 'In addition', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'For instance' are used to link ideas, although some capitalization choices in the transition markers ('TO COMMENCE WITH') are unconventional. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct central topic. Referencing throughout the text is generally clear, guiding the reader smoothly from the introduction of the dual-funding thesis through the contrasting arguments and into the final synthesis. The overall management of paragraphing and logical sequencing supports a band 7.0 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary that allows for some flexibility and precision, such as 'public health', 'private investment', 'pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies', and 'financial resources'. There are attempts to use less common items, although lexical choices are sometimes hindered by word-form and spelling inaccuracies in the opening paragraph, such as 'FINANCE' instead of 'financing', 'POINT OF VIEW' instead of 'viewpoint', and 'BELIVED' instead of 'believed'. Despite these minor flaws, the vocabulary used across the body paragraphs is adequate for the task and allows the writer to convey precise meanings regarding medical research and corporate profit motives. Communication is never impeded, placing the essay comfortably within the band 6.0 range, touching on band 6.5 features.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing, such as 'medicines, vaccines and medical equipment' and 'treatments for the same disease, which can increase the possibility...'. However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, particularly in the opening sentences, such as 'PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS ARE FINANCE IN SEVERAL MEDICAL PROJECTS' and 'COOPERATION WHICH IS GIVES WIDER ACCESSIBILITY'. Furthermore, 'GOVERNMENTS PLAYS IMPORTANT ROLE' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and 'DIRECTALY' is misspelled. While the body paragraphs contain many error-free sentences, the cluster of introductory errors prevents the grammar score from reaching a higher band. The mix of structures with persistent basic errors warrants a band 6.0.
