Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays a large group of private companies funded medical research . While private companies and organizations should add valuable contribution to the medical researc. But i think Government should take the responsibilty because medical research is beneficial for public so it does does involve in any profit.

Firstly government should focusin the disease that are not financialy attractive becuase private companies should invest in treatment and disease that generate profit. So government have to monitor that rare disease can not be ignored. For example government should grant to universities and reasearch institutions to study or research rare disease and develop new treatment.

Secondly govt-funded reasearch can focus on the long term health of population. Private comapnies focus on the project that generate quicker profit. Govt on the other hand should invest in vaccines prevention and public disease. This can be benefit for a whole society rather than a special class who can afford special treatment.

Neverthless private companies have important role in our society. Becuase thay have advance technology, experienced researcher and large financial resources.

Their investment can help turn sceintific discoveries and improvement into medical research. Inviduals can also donate to some institutions and universities.

In conclusion i beleive medical research should involve government, Private companies and individual. But Government should paly the more role becuase it gives direction and also not focus on the profit part.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position that medical research should involve multiple stakeholders, primarily the government alongside private companies and individuals. Main ideas are presented, such as the government focusing on rare diseases and long-term public health benefits, while private companies contribute technology and financial resources. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. Furthermore, the length check notes that the response contains 228 words, which falls short of the minimum 250-word requirement. This under-length impacts the overall fullness of the response, leading to a Band 5.5 score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, starting with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs addressing government and private roles, and a conclusion. Transitional markers such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Neverthless', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text. However, paragraphing and logical progression are occasionally hindered by abrupt sentence structures, such as starting a sentence with 'But i think'. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, and referencing is occasionally unclear. Overall, the arrangement provides a coherent framework, but lacks the sophisticated flow required for higher bands, fitting well within the Band 6.0 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'financialy attractive', 'reasearch institutions', and 'scentific discoveries'. However, there are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'researc', 'responsibilty', 'focusin', 'financialy', 'becuase', 'reasearch', 'comapnies', 'Neverthless', 'thay', 'advance', 'inviduals', 'paly') and word choice inaccuracies that detract from the writing. While communication is generally maintained, these persistent lexical and orthographic issues restrict the score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles (e.g., 'Government should take the responsibilty', 'Govt on the other hand should invest'), subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'government should focusin', 'government have to monitor'), and punctuation errors. These errors occasionally cause slight strain for the reader, though they do not completely impede communication. This performance aligns with the Band 5.0 descriptor for grammatical range and accuracy.
