Student answer (Band 5.0)

Medical researches had a great importance. Medical researches have many advantages for human health as well as animal's health. Medical researches should be funded properly so it can work with their full efforts.

Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. But in my opinion medical researches should be funded by private companies the reason behind that medical researches required funds in a large quantity so an individual cannot support a medical research project. I think government should also stay away from this because it is a continueous money reqired process and nowadays, our goverment is quite unstable economically. So, it is a great decision to fund the medical research projects by private companies. It has a great benefit that is private companies will invest properly on the projects because they know that when the research program will be successful it will make them financially very strong.

A medical research on brain cancer in America was funded by a privte company and that company had invested it's money and time for the research project and in return that medical research had make that compamy very popular and that company earned 3 times more than the they had invested in the research project. It is also beneficial for the government because that research is also linked by it's country. Whenever a person talks about that research he also mentions that, that research was made by Ameican scientists and it is a free fame for the country's government because they have invested nothing in the research and that research is still known by their country's name.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing who should fund medical research and taking a clear position that private companies are the best option due to the financial demands involved. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. While the writer touches on why individuals and governments are unsuited for the task, the reasoning remains simplistic. For instance, the claim that governments are 'quite unstable economically' lacks sufficient depth or academic nuance. The supporting example regarding brain cancer in America is generic and lacks specific verifiable detail, functioning more as a general assertion than a well-developed illustration. Consequently, the task response aligns with the Band 5 descriptors, as the ideas are presented but remain somewhat under-developed and limited in scope.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some basic organization, separating the introduction, body arguments, and conclusion into paragraphs. However, the overall progression is disjointed. The opening paragraph consists of three very short, repetitive sentences ('Medical researches had a great importance...') that fail to flow smoothly into a cohesive introduction. Cohesive devices are used rather mechanically or inappropriately, such as beginning multiple sentences with 'So' or 'It is also beneficial', which creates a choppy reading experience. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and paragraphing could be used more purposefully to separate distinct ideas, such as the comparison between government and private funding versus the example given. This level of organization and cohesive control corresponds to a Band 5 rating.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Words and phrases such as 'medical researches', 'financially very strong', and 'free fame' demonstrate basic capability, but also reveal noticeable errors in word formation (e.g., treating the uncountable noun 'research' as a plural countable noun 'researches') and collocation. Spelling and word choice errors, such as 'reqired', 'privte', and 'compamy', appear throughout the text. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they cause noticeable strain for the reader. The lexical repertoire lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands, making Band 5 an appropriate evaluation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing relies heavily on simple sentence structures and repetitive coordinate clauses joined by conjunctions like 'and' or 'so'. Attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty or awkwardly phrased, such as in the sentence: 'the reason behind that medical researches required funds in a large quantity so an individual cannot support a medical research project.' There are frequent grammatical errors, including tense inconsistencies ('had a great importance' instead of 'have'), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement issues. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences lacking proper clause separation. Because the range of structures is limited and frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, a Band 5 score is warranted.
