IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Private companies carrying most of the funding for medical research these days and some people argue that the research funding should be done by government and many individuals belive that it should be done by private companies and individuals. I believe that the funding should be done by both the private and public bodies.

Firstly, medical research projects are funded by private companies and individuals is mainly for discovery of certain objectives of particular company. Lage business bodies try to invistigate and extract information about specific objects. For example: Pharma companies such as Cipla, basically they fund medical research projects and discover medecine and later they patent that formula so that every other company cannot use it. Funding from the private companies and individuals are indirectly considered as investments as they get benifit with the formula which is discovered by the medical research team.

Government funded medical research teams are always secretive and they follow proper pattern for the medical research. The government funded labs and reseaech teams are usually associared to national safety first motive where as private companies may not always prioritize nation as business is their priority.

For example: During Corona virus our government produced the vaccine for it and most of the people in our country got benifit. If it was a private company, the vaccine could first reached the wealthy.

In conclusion, some people argue that medical research should be funded by private but I mostly believe that mecal research is to be funded by government bodies as they maintain secrecy.
