IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. We can take example of a Ryan Dhal (student of MIIT) who was researching on an AI based dental equipment. This research requires proper proofs and practical prototype.

To get a fund and make a prototype, he wrote emails and appications to the goverment bodies but got no proper response and fund at all. Then he started a fund raising campaign with the idea of his research and the work that has been done. Many private companies and individuals showed interest in his research and he succeeded to get a fund by SpaceX (a private company).

After getting fund, he hired 2 more researchers and completed the research in following 3 months. Ryan's research worked very well and he got an oscar for that. SpaceX also got their fruit in terms of profit and fame.

Goverment is not focusing on the medical researches but this feild has alot of potential. On the other hand private companies understood the assignment and they are heavily funding this feild.

If we talk about individuals, some researchers are doing research and funding by their own. Nowadays, this is the reason of spike in the graph of startups. There is very little proportion who are funding thereself or funded by any individuals because of less funding then private companies and goverment bodies. Scaling is another factor of this little proportion.

In my opinion , Goverment should focus and fund to the medical researches. Like if we take example of Ryan , he manages to win oscar and SpaceX got high profits as well. If goverment responded to the application of that particular individual and funds the research then that project scales even more better and that will be good for the economy of the country as well.
