IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Scientific researchs provide invaluable benefits for communities and currently private organisations provide the required money to cover these projects. However, these can also funded by individuals or government. I believe that for the best benefit they sould be funded by government only.

Private comapnies investement in scientific research may provid fales data and mislead information. When private organisations allocate funds from their annually profits to support research in certain project, they may not give a clear or trusted information about the result of their research if it will have negative impact on company. For example, pharmaceutical company that making research on improving paracetamol drug that use to treat fever in children by adding new material, this project can cost millions of dollars and company may not reveal the advers side effect of add material on human health because they want to retrun their spending on project by selling this new drug. As a result, people health can be at serious risk. Thus, medical research should cover only be government because the have no interest of making profit at the cost of people live.

On the other hand, large amount of funds needed to achieve a highly accurate research, which cannot be avialable by single person. Normally those complicated research reqiured significant amount of money to be allocated for accommodation, laboratory devicese, employees monthly payments, and to pay for experties who interested in this field. For example, making a research on the COVID-19 virus need special environment to enable researcher to achieve a great vaccine, this need sofisticated and expensive microscopic device and specialise doctors who usually charge alot of mony. This amount of mony can not cover by single person, if they attempt to do so, will result in low quality research because the may bring bad quality material to fit their budget. Subsequently, affect the out come of result and eventually human health. Therefore, research should be funded by governemnt as they have substaintial amount of money that usually allocated for medical research.

In conclusion, research can by funded by organization and people. However, for the maximium benefit they should be funded by governemnt only.
