Student answer (Band 5.5)
In present, many medical research programmes are funded and driven by private limited companies. Although private firms and individuals have ann important roles in medical projects, but I believe that government should be the primary source for the funding. This essay will support my opinion with valid arguments.
One primary reason, why I support this view is that government shoulf be invloved in all of this and medical projects are driven by officials. This is because, governments ensure the measures for public welfare rather than focusing on profitable measures. For instance, private companies focus on producing large margins instead of concerning about the quality of medicines and their impact on public health. If the government is invloved all these projects should be carried in ethical way. Thats why, I believe governments must look after medical research projects.
Another important reason is that government involvement is neccessary to make sure methods are safe and relaible. Because, private companies focus on commercial interest and profits. Therefore, governments can stablish ethical standards, monitor clinical trails and check wether the results are accurate and relaible. Such as, a medicine before comming into the market is examined by the government wethere is it safe or not and as well as effective. Due to this, patients are better protected from unsafe medical products.
In conclusion, although private companies are important but government involvement is essential to focus on public welfare instead of profits and make sure the methods are legal and safe to protect public from harmed and unsafe medicines.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt directly by discussing who should fund medical research and presents a clear position that the government should be the primary source. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as contrasting the profit motives of private companies with public welfare priorities. However, the development of ideas tends to be slightly repetitive, looping back to the concepts of profit and public safety without fully extending the arguments into broader economic or policy considerations. For example, the mention that private companies focus on 'large margins' is a solid point, but it is not expanded with deeper nuance. Nonetheless, all parts of the task are addressed adequately, and a consistent stance is maintained throughout. This aligns closely with Band 6 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition in the second sentence contains a grammatical clash ('Although private firms and individuals have ann important roles in medical projects, but I believe...'), which disrupts the logical flow. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the vague pronoun use in 'all of this' and 'all these projects'. While logical organisation is present, the repetitive sentence starters and minor cohesive errors mean it fits comfortably within Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'programme', 'welfare', 'commercial interest', and 'clinical trials'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, including 'In present' instead of 'At present', 'ann' instead of 'an', 'shoulf', 'invloved', 'Thats why', 'neccessary', 'relaible', 'wether', and 'comming'. Furthermore, the phrase 'focusing on profitable measures' is slightly unnatural. These errors do not completely impede communication, as the writer's meaning remains clear, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5, which rounds to Band 5 based on the frequency of basic spelling inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and concessive clauses (e.g., 'If the government is invloved all these projects should be carried in ethical way'). However, there is a high frequency of grammatical and punctuation errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('government shoulf be invloved', 'methods are safe... because, private companies focus'), missing prepositions, and incorrect conjunction pairing ('Although... but...'). Punctuation is also misused with unnecessary commas interrupting clause structures, such as 'One primary reason, why I support this view is that...'. Due to the constant presence of errors affecting basic sentence architecture, the grammar profile aligns with Band 5.
