IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is found that, many medical research projects have been funded by private sectors and this topic has become a debatable issue among people. Some people agree with the happenig because they says it is a private companie's responsibility. While other argue that these project should funded by private companies, individuals or governments. This essay is in favour of the later school of though because it is a general responsibilty for everyone.
Some people argue that, private sectors should provide financial support for research projects because they says it is a solely responsibity of private companies. To explain it, private companies are financially stable to support these kind of activities. Additionally, they often support in healthcare, education and environmental projects so should also help to these kind of higher level projects. To give an example, according to the report of the BBC news, many private companies gave donations for the education purpose.
On the other hand, it is said that funding for research project is a general responsibilty which should be carried by all the sectors such as private companies, individuals and the government. To explain, researches are for the benefit of every person who works in economy, so they all should support these kind of projects. However, the government should support with high proportion because it it government's main responsibility to support education system. To quote an instance, according to the survey of Oxford University, in many other countries government's financial support recorded more than other sectors.
To conclude, although providing financial support to the medical research projects is government's responsibility, the private companies and individuals can also support them by giving financial support because it can improve all education system.
