Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent time, the burden to provide funding for the numerous medical research projects are on private companies only. This essay will discuss who should raise the fund for such researches like, private companies, individuals or government before giving my opinion with valid reasons and relevant examples in forthcoming paragraphs.

Firstly, the major reason to support research should funded by private companies, there is number of pharmacheutical private company who spends their money for medical research to gain certain advantage from it, furthermore many companies sign contract with the groups who does such research. For instance, these companies asks for some amount of share or take advantage from the research if the project gains popularity, they want the name of their company on such curriculum to gain their comapny popularity and make it known amoung the society, In exchange these company open doors of their high technology and well equiped lab for scientists and sponsor all the needed materials.

Secondly, the reason that supports individual should fund for their medical research. sometimes its hard to convince company or government or any other group to sponsor such projects due to, lack of potenitial, researchers unable to show the outcome and benefit or lack of condfidence is determined from them. However, they should not wait for external aid instead of they should spend their own money and start the project. For example, many individual is not in favour to share their project success with any other group as they have worked so hard to make it successful.

Lastly, government also can help in such projects. The youth is the future of the country and government should take care of their future because of several reasons such as, They can benefit from the outcome for their country growth and If government does not give sponsorship then research unable to conduct and rearchers may move out to foreighn countries to gain support and foreign company will get advantage from the results and use to grow their company. As a result of, foreign country economy will grow stronger. That is the reason government should step in and put country money into usage for such works.

To conclude, Every type funding has its own advantage and disadvantage. However, the one type that make incline towards is government funding. In my opinion, I believe that medical research are funded by government to improve country economy and give yougster chance to get success.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether medical research should be funded by private companies, individuals, or the government, and states a clear position in the conclusion favouring government funding. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, which keeps the task response at this level. While the writer attempts to explore multiple viewpoints, such as corporate sponsorship and self-funding by researchers, the arguments lack depth and rely on generalised statements without fully robust supporting examples. For instance, the paragraph regarding individual funding suggests that researchers should spend their own money to avoid sharing success, but this point remains underdeveloped and unconvincing in a real-world context. To move higher, the response would need to extend and fully develop each viewpoint with more specific, plausible examples and maintain a clearer, more consistent position throughout all body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the essay, with a clear introduction, separate body paragraphs addressing different funding sources, and a concluding paragraph. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between ideas is occasionally disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but they are sometimes inadequate, repetitive, or mechanically applied, such as the repetitive use of transitional markers like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Lastly' in a somewhat formulaic manner. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs suffers from run-on sentences and unclear referencing pronouns. For example, in the third paragraph, phrases like 'lack of condfidence is determined from them' disrupt the logical thread. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to employ a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that the progression of ideas from one sentence to the next is smoother and logically transparent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey basic ideas about medical research and funding. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'pharmacheutical' instead of pharmaceutical, 'comapny' instead of company, and 'amoung' instead of among. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'sponsorship', 'curriculum', and 'high technology', but these are often used inaccurately or inappropriately within the context. To improve lexical resource, the student should expand their range of vocabulary, pay closer attention to word formation and spelling, and practice correct collocations related to academic and scientific topics to ensure precise expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic compound forms. When the writer attempts complex sentences, they are frequently faulty, leading to grammar errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement, verb forms, articles, and prepositions throughout the text, such as 'the burden to provide funding... are on private companies', 'research should funded by private companies', and 'many individual is not in favour'. Punctuation is also problematic, with several run-on sentences and comma splices, particularly in the second and fourth paragraphs. To reach a higher band, the writer must demonstrate better control over a wider variety of complex sentence structures and significantly reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
