Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
First, it is important to note that the length requirement of at least 250 words has not been met, as the response contains only 146 words. Regarding task coverage, the response addresses the prompt only partially. You have attempted to discuss the role of private companies in medical research, but your position is not fully articulated throughout, and the ideas presented are limited and under-developed. For instance, when you state that 'advantage of private funding is overcome to disadvantages', the point is underdeveloped and lacks sufficient explanation. Similarly, the points regarding bureaucracy and market demand are stated briefly without being properly extended with relevant examples or sound reasoning. To reach a higher level, you must write a much longer response that fully explores all parts of the prompt, supporting your arguments with clear explanations and fully developed examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation in your writing, as you attempt to divide your points using transitional markers such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', followed by a concluding paragraph. However, there is no clear overall progression across the text, and the paragraphing is somewhat basic and fragmented. Furthermore, cohesive devices are occasionally repetitive, inaccurate, or used in a mechanical manner, such as 'When private companies gives funds to medical research projects , their outcomes mainly focused on profit.' To improve cohesion and logical flow, you should ensure that sentences are linked smoothly using a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices, and organise your arguments into well-developed paragraphs that clearly guide the reader through your line of reasoning from introduction to conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for expressing basic ideas. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as 'beuracracy', 'enterprise', and 'outcomes', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and word choice. For example, 'beuracracy' is misspelled, and phrases like 'prohabbited, the reach of poor people' and 'private results in less time' demonstrate awkward collocations and lexical inaccuracies that cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, you need to expand your lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to correct spelling and word forms, and ensure that your choice of words accurately conveys your intended meaning in a natural style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few basic attempts at complex forms. However, these attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors in grammar. Examples of grammatical errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('private companies gives', 'government burden make less'), incorrect prepositional usage, and missing or erroneous articles ('treatment are expensive', 'Only rich one gets benefit'). Additionally, sentence boundaries and word forms within grammatical patterns need better control. To move up to the next level, you should incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures while significantly improving grammatical accuracy, ensuring that basic agreements, verb forms, and articles are handled correctly.
