Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent times, a significant number of medical research projects are funded by private companies. From my perspective, I believe that the government should fund in medical research projects neither private companies nor individuals. The reasons for my stance are discussed in the following paragraphs.
There are several reasons that the government should fund in medical research projects. First and foremost, to improve the healthcare field of the country. To explain it further, all diesease or illness cure must be find by medical research projects, so if the government support these projects then it might be enhance the healthcare field of the country. Consequently, it also improves the health of people as well. In addition, the government have all the resources which are needed in research whether it is money or any other equipments. As a result, it is very easy to research on any medical topics without any difficulties. For instance, The United States government funded in their medical research projects during the covid-19, which proved to be beneficial for all over the world.
In contrast, if private companies fund in medical research projects then it is very adverse, because private companies are profit-driven. they dont focus on whether the research is advantageous for public or not, they only think about their own profit. Moreover, individuals dont have sufficient resources to fund in medical research projects, which create intense pressure and stress on both individuals as well as on scientists.
In conclusion, although private companies provide as much moneny as needed in medical research projects without strict supervision, in my opinion the government should fund in medical research projects due to availability of resources and to enhance healthcare area of their country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that government funding is preferable to private or individual funding. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the profit-driven nature of private companies and the resource availability of governments, meeting the criteria for a solid mid-level performance. However, some ideas are under-developed or supported with limited elaboration. For instance, the argument regarding the US government during Covid-19 is mentioned briefly without deep exploration of how it supports the central thesis. To move to a higher level, the writer should extend and support all main arguments with more thorough explanations and fully developed examples rather than relying on brief generalisations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs addressing the government and private companies respectively, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas throughout the essay. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, relying heavily on basic transition phrases such as 'First and foremost', 'To explain it further', 'In addition', and 'In contrast'. Referencing and logical connectors are at times overly formulaic rather than smoothly integrated. To achieve a higher level, the writer needs to employ a wider range of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that referencing between sentences is seamless and unobtrusive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the main arguments with a minimally sufficient range of terms such as 'profit-driven', 'healthcare field', and 'resources'. However, the writer makes several word choice and collocation errors, such as writing 'fund in medical research projects' instead of 'fund medical research projects', 'diesease', and 'moneny'. There are also instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'enhance the healthcare field'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are noticeable, but inaccuracies prevent the lexical score from rising further. To improve, the writer must focus on precise word choices, correct collocations, and accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at subordination and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors involving prepositional patterns, pluralisation, and verb forms, such as 'the government have all the resources' (subject-verb agreement), 'cure must be find' (passive voice error), and 'individuals dont have' (missing apostrophe). Although these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur regularly throughout the text. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate better control over complex grammatical structures and agreement rules.
