Student answer (Band 6.0)

In modern life, medical research projects are becoming increasingly important. Nowadays many people believe medical research projects should be funded by government. While others argue that it should be funded by private companies. I believe that it should be carried by government because its benefits far outweigh their disadvantages. In this essay i will explain the reasons for my opinions.

There are several reasons why I hold this view. The primary reason is that government have a lots of funds and resources where medical research can be conduct sucsessfull. Moreover, it provides additional advantages such as government offers much facillities for the researchers. For example, government offer a good sallaries, incentives and insurance. In other words, medical research carried by government places researchers in a more favorable positions to improve their quality of life, achieve their goals and enhance their overall well-being.

Another significant point is that medical research funded by the government is not only affects individuals but also has a considerable impact on society. For example, the medical facilities are affordable to those that are poor. People do not needs to go to a private hospitals beacuse government hospital will have all the facilities. Furthermore, Its positive influence extends to both society and the economy. This makes an important issue that deserves carefully consideration. This is why many people support it.

To conclude, although medical research that are funded by government may have a few minor drawbacks, its advantages are far more significant. Therefore, I believe that it is a trend that should be welcomed.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that government funding is preferable for medical research. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as financial security for researchers and societal benefits like affordable healthcare. However, some aspects of the argument are under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the discussion on societal impacts remains somewhat generalised, and the example regarding hospital facilities lacks specific context. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to provide more fully developed explanations and concrete examples that thoroughly substantiate each main point throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement and logical progression, successfully bridging into the next band by utilizing clear paragraphing and organisational structures. The essay is divided into distinct paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason is that', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' are employed to guide the reader through the text, though referencing and linking can occasionally feel slightly mechanical. To achieve a higher score, the writer should integrate more seamless and flexible cohesive devices, ensuring that transitions between sentences flow completely naturally without relying on formulaic expressions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'incentives', 'favorable positions', and 'overall well-being'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'sucsessfull', 'facillities', 'sallaries', and 'beacuse', alongside awkward collocations like 'research can be conduct'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips do not impede communication, placing the response firmly at this level. To improve lexical resource, the student must broaden their control of word formation, spelling accuracy, and natural phrasing to use less common vocabulary with precision and style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. There are several grammatical errors present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('government have', 'government offer', 'that are poor'), article omissions ('in a more favorable positions'), and prepositional slips ('carried by government'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede overall communication. To progress further, the writer needs to produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over grammatical patterns, plurals, and verb forms.
