Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies.

In my opinion I think that research should be carried by both private and government because they have their own benefits. If research had been done by government there will be alot of benefits like there will not be the problem of the funding because government will provide all the expenses which will be needed in the research program. You can explore different medical related projects in the government and you will get an different ideas from that which will help you in your research. You can also use your connections in medical related projects. You could also get help of your professors of your university from where you graudated.

The research could also be carried by private companies, they also provide funding in big amount which will help you in your medical research projects. You can also explore big private hospitals for your research project. In private companies they will provide you a peaceful environment for the research which is very beneficial because for research you need an peaceful place where you can work on project and most important your communication skills matter, that how will you deal with your collegues whom you are working in the research. You should have strong leadership and management skills. After completing the research it matters alot that how will you deliver your project to your audience, and how much they attracted from your research and you should have any USP in your research.

In my experience I am working on my project which is DocScribe AI. I had make that project because when patient is admitted in the hospital multiple doctors visit them and patient have to repeat their history again and again so they get frustated. So in my project the conversion between doctor and patient will happen and SOAP notes will be generated so patient don't have to repeat their conversion, and it will reduce time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response partially addresses the task by discussing funding from both government and private companies, while including a personal example about a medical project. However, the position is not always clear, and the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on government funding focuses more on general networking and university connections rather than exploring the broader implications of who should fund medical research. Similarly, the points about private companies touch on funding and a peaceful environment, but they lack depth and extension. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to present a fully developed position with well-supported arguments that directly address the core of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some organisation, dividing the response into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion based on personal experience, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are sometimes repetitive or inaccurate, such as the frequent reliance on 'you can also' and 'which will help you' to link ideas across sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is disjointed, jumping abruptly from funding to communication skills and leadership. To achieve a higher band, the writer should ensure a smoother progression of ideas and use a wider variety of accurate cohesive devices without mechanical repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic points about funding and research environments. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices that may cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'funded in big amount' instead of 'large sums of funding', 'conversion' instead of 'conversation', and 'how much they attracted' instead of 'how engaged they are'. Word formation errors are also present, such as 'frustated'. To progress to a higher band, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire, use less common vocabulary more accurately, and pay closer attention to natural collocations and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of structures, with frequent reliance on simple clauses and coordinate sentences. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, such as in conditional and relative clauses ('If research had been done by government there will be alot of benefits...'). Frequent errors are present in verb tenses, conditional structures, articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'carried by private and government' missing necessary nouns, and 'I had make that project'. Punctuation errors also occur. These frequent errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader. To reach the next band, the writer must demonstrate better control over a wider variety of grammatical structures and significantly reduce basic grammatical errors.
