Student answer (Band 5.0)

At the moment, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In my opinion, i believe that research should be carried by private enterprises and goverment equally.

Many medical research are funded by private firms nowadays which is supporting the research work efficiently. funding provided by these organisation is very beneficial as well as important. For instance, research and development required a lot of money to function their work. If there are no money and support by public companies or other research work may be held or stop. On the other hand,in my views it will be great if there will be also government to support these. State plays very crucial role in any development of a country or to make any plans successful so, private enterprices alongwith government wii be very advantageous for medical research team.

Some medical rersearch include investigating different drugs, finding many antidotes which helps public get heal fast from different diseases.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

First, it is important to note that the length requirement is NOT met. The response contains 146 words, which is 104 words short of the 250-word minimum, and 10 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Regarding task response, the student responds to the task only minimally. While the writer manages to state an opinion that research should be carried out by private enterprises and government equally, the ideas are severely limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of investigating different drugs and finding antidotes lacks specific explanation, examples, or extension. To reach a higher level, the writer must expand significantly on their ideas, provide fully developed supporting arguments, and meet the minimum word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation in the response, but it lacks clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs are extremely brief, particularly the final one-sentence paragraph which disrupts the flow of the essay. Cohesive devices are inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, with repetitive transitional phrases like 'On the other hand' used inappropriately to introduce a cooperating idea rather than a contrasting one. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as when pronouns lack distinct antecedents. To improve coherence and cohesion, the writer needs to logically sequence their ideas into well-developed paragraphs, use a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the argument, and ensure clear progression throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, featuring frequent reliance on simple words like 'research', 'money', and 'support'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as writing 'goverment' instead of government, 'enterprices' instead of enterprises, and using 'public companies' when referring to private entities. Additionally, phrases like 'get heal fast' demonstrate awkward collocation and form. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their lexical range by incorporating less common vocabulary and idiomatic expressions with greater precision and correct spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, while attempts at complex sentences are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'Many medical research are' instead of research is, missing articles such as 'required a lot of money', and incorrect capitalization and punctuation, including uncapitalized pronouns like 'i' and missing spaces after commas. Prepositions and verb forms are also mishandled in patterns like 'supported by public companies or other research work may be held or stop'. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer should practice forming complex sentences accurately and monitor basic grammar rules such as agreement and punctuation.
