Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent time most of the medical research projects are funded by private authorities or companies. Before giving my opinion this essay will discuss both point of views (first why private and then why government should carry this type of projects) i believe that medical projects should be funded by government authorities or companies.

I believe that this type of projects should be carried by government. One major factor is that citizens can trust blindly whether if it is safe or not. As an example if India is working on food poisoning project than it must be funded by F.D.A. which is a government faculty so people can trust blindly on this types of projects. Worker can not change anything regarding that report of the projects. Along with that government should also advertise about their projects like how they discover, what are the side effects of it to our body and a lot like that However, it can also make people understand about their medical projects side effects and what to do to be safe from that stuff.

One the side, in recent time most of the medical related projects are carried by private authorities or companies. To be very honest I am partly agreed with this condition because private companies charges are on up to next level. Along with that private authorities or companies can change reports of their projects. As an example there is a chips company named ''Karare'' in India. They sent their sample to a private company( around in the year of 2019) to check whether it is safe or not However, report from the private company were claiming it was completely safe later government checked the same exact sample and it was harmfull for our health because too much palm oil were used in it. So like this if private authorities or companies can get excellence bribe so they can do anything litrally anything.

To conclude, I believe that in recent time most of the medical projects are carried by private companies; should be shifted to government authorities.

Coherence and Cohesion5.5
Lexical Resource5.0
Grammatical Range and Accuracy5.0
Overall5.5

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both private and government funding, and presents a clear position that government authorities should fund medical projects. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the second and third body paragraphs attempt to provide reasoning and examples, some ideas remain under-developed or unclear. For instance, the discussion around food poisoning projects and the example of the chip brand 'Karare' are somewhat colloquial and lack precise academic elaboration. To reach a higher band, the ideas would need to be more fully extended and supported with clearer, more formal examples and a more thorough exploration of the consequences of private versus public funding.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible progression of ideas, introducing the topic and stating a position in the introduction, followed by supporting paragraphs and a brief conclusion. However, the cohesion often feels mechanical or faulty. The transitions between sentences and paragraphs lack smooth integration, exemplified by phrases like 'One the side,' which is awkward and inaccurate. Paragraphing is attempted, but the logical flow within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by abrupt shifts in focus, such as the sudden pivot from trust in government agencies to advertising strategies. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall management of cohesive devices needs more flexibility and precision to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'authorities', 'poisoning', and 'harmfull'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling. Phrases like 'trust blindly whether if it is safe or not', 'excellence bribe', and 'litrally anything' demonstrate a lack of precision and awkward collocation. Additionally, spelling errors such as 'harmfull' and grammatical word-form slips occur throughout the text. While these do not completely impede communication, they restrict the vocabulary score to this level, as greater precision, stylistic awareness, and correct word formation are required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Issues include missing articles ('in recent time', 'to check whether it is safe'), incorrect prepositions ('funded by private authorities', 'trusted blindly on'), subject-verb agreement errors ('private companies charges are', 'too much palm oil were'), and punctuation mistakes. These errors require some effort from the reader to decode the meaning. A higher band would require a wider variety of error-free complex structures and tighter control over basic grammatical patterns.
