Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent days, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. It is widely believed that this issue has become increasingly significant for all the modern societies in globe. In my personal opinion, Government should invest on medical research project because healthcare is a public responsibility. This essay will discuss about why government should funds medical research.
The main reason why government should play main role in medical field is that they can focus on whole population rather than making profit. some projects such as rare disease and new vaccines may not financially attractive for private organizations. However, government can support these disease because the main aim of government is to protect public health. For example, during major disease outbreaks government can give more funds for researchers to develop new vaccines and treatment more quickly.
On the other hand, Private organizations also have important role in medical research because they have a large amount of funds, new technology and skilled researchers. As a result, they can develop new equipment more quickly to invest on them. However, main focus of private companies could get profit and may be they not invest on those projects which are not financially more attractive. Similarly, Individuals also contribute to medical research specially doctors and researchers because they have new ideas and skills. However, Individuals may not have enough money to carry medical equipment for new research.
In conclusion, I believe that governments should be mainly responsible for medical research, while private companies and individuals should also contribute. Government funding can ensure that research focuses on public health, whereas private organizations and individual researchers can provide additional money, technology and new ideas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing private companies, individuals, and the government, presenting a clear position that the government should lead medical research. The main ideas are generally relevant, but some are under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the discussion on individual contributors like doctors is somewhat brief and touches superficially on their lack of funding. To move to a higher level, the student needs to fully develop all parts of the argument with deeper explanations and more comprehensive real-world examples, moving beyond general statements about profits and public health to explore specific policy impacts or funding models.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct paragraphs dedicated to government roles and the counter-perspectives of private companies and individuals. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or repetitive, particularly through the frequent reliance on words like 'however' and 'on the other hand' to signal contrast. Referencing is generally functional, but the progression between sentences occasionally feels abrupt. To achieve a higher score, the writer should employ a wider range of cohesive devices more fluidly and ensure seamless transitions between ideas without overusing standard transition markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'outbreaks', 'financially attractive', and 'public responsibility'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'funds medical research' instead of 'fund', 'give more funds for researchers' instead of 'to', and 'carry medical equipment' when referring to conducting research or funding projects. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the writing from achieving greater precision. To reach the next level, the student should incorporate a more varied and sophisticated lexicon with accurate collocations and careful attention to word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'The main reason why government should play main role in medical field is that they can focus on whole population'. However, there are persistent errors in grammar, particularly concerning article usage ('in globe', 'Government should invest', 'main role'), preposition selection ('invest on' instead of 'invest in'), and subject-verb agreement. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear and they rarely impede communication. To attain a higher band, the writer must produce a greater proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over articles and prepositions within grammatical patterns.
