Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response addresses the task only partially. It attempts to discuss who should fund medical research by mentioning private companies and the government, but the position is not always clear, and ideas remain limited and heavily under-developed. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum word count requirement, containing 248 words instead of the required 250, which restricts the depth of the arguments presented. Sentences such as 'One of the key benefits private companies has spend a money big projects' touch upon relevant themes regarding funding sources, but the reasoning is disjointed and fails to build a coherent, sustained argument. To move to a higher band, the writer must fully develop a clear, consistent stance throughout the essay, expand on ideas with logical explanations and relevant examples, and ensure the word count requirement is fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The information and ideas are not arranged coherently. While paragraph breaks are attempted, the overall progression is extremely difficult to follow, and the essay lacks a logical structure. Transitions between sentences are often absent or misused, leading to a series of disconnected statements rather than a cohesive flow. For instance, moving abruptly from private companies providing health benefits to 'pakistan government should not a provide government hospital better check up machines' creates severe confusion regarding the relationship between ideas. Referencing is also unclear, as pronouns and cohesive devices are either missing or inaccurate. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to organise ideas into clear, logical paragraphs with distinct central themes, use a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices, and ensure that referencing clearly guides the reader through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, and frequent errors in word form, choice, and spelling significantly strain the reader. The writer relies heavily on simple terms and makes numerous collocation errors, such as 'spend a money big projects' and 'medicine price not a provide poor people'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with a high degree of inaccuracy, which often impedes communication and obscures the intended meaning. Spelling and word formation issues are also prevalent throughout the text. To lift this criterion to the next level, the writer must expand their lexical range beyond basic terms, pay closer attention to word classes and collocations, and work on accuracy in spelling and word choice so that ideas can be expressed with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammar and sentence structures display a very limited range, consisting primarily of simple and faulty attempts at complex structures. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and article usage, which often cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'The growing influence medical research projects are funded by private are funded by private companies' and 'government a provide free medicine'. Punctuation and preposition use within grammatical patterns are also weak, leading to distorted meanings in several places. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate control over a wider variety of grammatical structures, reduce the frequency of basic errors by checking agreement and verb patterns, and construct grammatically sound sentences that communicate ideas clearly.
