Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, healthcare research has become increasingly popular so that private sector are more interested to invest in healthcare facilities. Although there are some benefit of private investment, I believe that government should carry out research project for the benefit of the citizens.
There are several reason behind the government investment. One possible reason is that to make healthcare facilities accessible for all. Medical care are one of the most significant needs of people, which become a business nowadays due to private companies intervention. Most of the research are done by private sector, which lead to healthcare more expensive as a result of their profit intensive mind. If government may start to invest in those projects and make the facilities available at a minimum cost. So medical facilities are available for all class of people of the society.
Another reason is make to choose the emergency ones for citizens rather than focusing on profitable researches. Private companies may invest on the projects that are profitable for their business and ignore the most important and necessary projects. If government invest own fund on research, they can choose the project which are most vital for public and country. For instance, in developing countries, government provide free vaccine such as HTTB for school children to ensure that everyone get vaccine and setup free treatment camp in rural areas.
In conclusion, Although private investment can be improve healthcare facilities, I completely believe that government investment can make medical treatment accessible to less affluent people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you favour government-funded research because it can improve access and prioritise public needs. You address the choice of funder and give two relevant reasons, including the example of vaccination and treatment in rural areas. This meets the task overall, but the support is uneven. The first reason explains how profit-driven research may raise costs, while the second is less clear: the phrase “choose the emergency ones” does not specify which urgent research areas you mean, and the example is not fully connected to how government funding selects them. Develop this point with a specific example, such as research into neglected diseases or emergency preparedness, and explain the public benefit. A brief acknowledgement of the role private companies could play would also make your response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “One possible reason,” “Another reason,” and “For instance” help readers follow the argument. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. In the first body paragraph, “If government may start to invest…” is followed by “So medical facilities…,” leaving the relationship between the ideas awkwardly expressed. The second paragraph also moves from prioritising research to vaccines and treatment camps without fully explaining the connection. Use complete cause-and-effect sentences and make references explicit—for example, explain how public funding directs resources towards urgent needs and then show how a vaccination programme illustrates this.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “private sector,” “medical care,” “profitable,” “accessible,” and “less affluent,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “profit intensive mind,” but this collocation is unnatural and makes the meaning less precise. Other choices, including “healthcare facilities” where you mean research or treatment, and “emergency ones,” are vague or imprecise. Repetition of “government,” “research,” and “facilities” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate topic-specific phrases such as “publicly funded research,” “commercial priorities,” and “urgent health needs.” Check word forms and collocations as well as spelling, so that ambitious vocabulary strengthens rather than obscures your argument.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction and conditional structures such as “If government may start to invest.” However, control is inconsistent, and several errors make sentences difficult to follow. For example, “private sector are” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “Medical care are” and “Most of the research are” also use incorrect agreement. The conditional sentence beginning “If government may start…” is incomplete in its structure, and “Another reason is make to choose…” is not grammatically formed. Articles and plurals also need attention, as in “some benefit” and “research project.” Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement and article use during revision.
